2011 Chapter Of The Year
Delta Epsilon Psi’s Xi Chapter was recently awarded “Chapter of the Year” by the National Council of their fraternity. This honor is bestowed upon the chapter that shows the most commitment to furthering the ideals and principles of the fraternity as a whole. In this past year, the Xi Chapter of Drexel University did just that. The individuals of this chapter have shown a strong representation of the fraternity’s pillars: brotherhood, discipline, and commitment. Not only have they gone above and beyond the expectations of their fraternity and school, but also the entire Philadelphia community.
During the first two weeks of the fall term, Xi Chapter held its first annual “Raas for a Cure”. The event was a tremendous success, raising over $1400 in less than 4 hours for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Next, in the winter, Xi Chapter held the first ever probate on Drexel University’s campus with the revealing of their Zeta Class. Their 8 new members wowed the crowd with greetings for other Greek organizations, skits, and strolls. In the spring, Xi Chapter held its second annual “Who’s Got Game” basketball tournament, raising even more money for JDRF. In addition to these events, the chapter has readily engaged in social activities such as mixers and other events with the fraternities and sororities at Drexel University as well as being able to host its own formal. The chapter, throughout all of these endeavors, has maintained one of the highest GPAs of any fraternity and sorority on Drexel’s Campus two years in a row.
Outside of the events thrown throughout the year, the chapter was also recognized for several prestigious awards including Excellence in Community Service and Outstanding Leadership in Drexel University’s Multicultural Greek Council. Two of our chapter’s brothers, Ali Naqvi and Kaushal Sheth, won the awards of New Member of the Year and Lifetime Member of the Year, respectively, for their work on Drexel’s campus and in the community. But the biggest takeaway for the year for this chapter was the Dean’s Cup, one of the most prestigious and honorable awards Greek Life offers at Drexel University, given to the best organization in each council on our campus. The chapter was also instrumental in the planning of the 2011 National Convention, which was recently held in Philadelphia. Several members dedicated their time and efforts to take part in Convention planning and organization, which in the end was a great success.
The past year has been an exciting one for Xi Chapter, filled with many firsts for the chapter including the first ever probate at Drexel, becoming a Chapter, doubling our membership within one year, hosting our first ever Raas for a Cure, presenting the first ever probate on our campus, and many others. The growth that has been witnessed by all has led to unbelievable success, mainly due to the hard work and dedication that has been exhibited by each and every member of the Chapter.
