Spotlight - Tau Colony
What started as an ambition by eight determined young men became a reality on May 16th, 2011 as twenty one young men came together to establish the Tau Colony of Delta Epsilon Psi on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology. Their vision was to set a new standard of what it meant to be Greek on a college campus and to bring a unified South Asian voice to the city of Newark. These men strive to inspire leadership, scholarship, and philanthropy through their endeavors; and have become adamant in pursuing nothing short of the best of their performance.
Embodying the principles of brotherhood, discipline, and commitment, these founders established their colony at New Jersey Institute of Technology within two year of selfless work. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they held tight to their strong work ethic and did not allow their commitment to waiver. Those men persevered through whatever challenge was thrown in their direction. In their time as an interest group the men of Tau Colony were able to successfully captivate the campus through their diligent work and by throwing large scale events that brought in hundreds. As a group of dedicated students, the group was able to host a two week long exhibition for Women's History Month, which became an award winning program at NJIT. They were also able to host numerous events that have national affiliations with Delta Epsilon Psi. They brought the first “Be The Change Day” to NJIT in 2010, and successfully were able to host it again recently in 2011. In addition, they also hosted a “Garam Garba” and now are hosting it for the second time. In addition, they were able to play off the signature event - Dodging Diabetes - and threw a charity dodge ball tournament in the Spring of 2011. This is a mere glimpse of their shine with what they were able to do prior to recognition.
Today, the Tau Colony of Delta Epsilon Psi is comprised of many academically and goal oriented men, ready to become the leaders on their campus. They have established themselves as the Greek organization with the highest GPA as well as a high success rate in throwing events. Fall 2011 has become the showcase semester for Tau Colony who are enthusiastic to show the fraternity and their university what they are capable of. In addition to “Be The Change” and “Garam Garba,” Tau Colony proudly threw their first signature event - “Who's Got Game”-and were able to raise $1,000 towards JDRF. Other line ups for the upcoming colony are also a Bone Marrow Drive and hosting a regional brotherhood event for the North East.
Tau Colony strives to excel in all of its endeavors and set the bar of what it means to be part of the Greek Community. These men aspire to leave a distinguished impression on their campus and the community of Newark as individuals that surpass the expectations of students. The founders of Tau Colony wish to leave a lasting legacy of the true potential inherent in all, to show that an individual can become extraordinary and make a difference.
