Delta Epsilon Psi, Raising the Bar

This semester, fall 2011, Mu colony has planned five key events that vary from juvenile diabetes to service in local areas. Service is important in order to give back to our community. Without service, our purpose as a fraternity would not exist. However, Delta Epsilon Psi continues to exceed its purpose by setting a high standard for philanthropy as well as giving back to the community.

On September 9th, the brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi Mu Colony set out to the out skirts of Lubbock in order to serve the South Plains Food Bank in its daily charitable services. The South Plains Food Bank helps feed young children as well as adults. Children who are not able to eat lunch can be fed due to the service of the South Plains Food Bank. A similar event is coming up. The Ronald McDonald house is a great opportunity to play with children as well as help McDonalds in their daily duties such as cleaning and serving food. This event will take place on October 22nd. Both of these events remind us how important children are for the future of our society. Every child should grow up in an environment where they do not have to worry about their next meal. And that is why we continue to work with children every semester.

This year, Delta Epsilon Psi has become the west Texas ambassadors for the Bone Marrow Drive. This is a great accomplishment since we represent the whole west Texas region.  Our bone marrow registry event takes place on the 27th of October on campus.

Now as our signature event, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk-a-thon is predicted to have a large following of up to one thousand people in attendance. This year Delta Epsilon Psi South Asian Fraternity Incorporated is now an official partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This walk-a-thon will be a wonderful event for the whole community of Lubbock to participate in. Delta Epsilon Psi will also be recognized by the entire student body of Texas Tech University.

Mu Colony has changed since it was founded. Yes, as a fraternity we have met our goals as an individual organization, but what of those around us? Mu Colony has become more involved amongst other Multicultural Greek organizations. A large Multicultural Greek Council event is taking place near the end of this semester. The Multicultural Greek Council of Texas Tech University has joined in a group effort to provide a massive gift wrapping for younger kids in the area. All of MGC has decided to unite in order to help brighten the children’s Christmas.

As Mu Colony grows, so does its impact on the community around it. Locally, we have established our philanthropy and commitment to service. Nationally as a fraternity, Mu has helped push Delta Epsilon Psi’s philanthropy to new limits. We continue to instill our pillars through various service driven endeavors.
