“B.A.D. Boys” Fraternities Give Back In Holiday Spirit

Orlando, Florida – As Christmas approaches within the next few weeks, the B.A.D Boys decided to give to the children in the holiday spirit.  On Tuesday November 29th, the brothers of the Lambda Chapter of Delta Epsilon Psi Inc, the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta Inc., and the Xi Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. hosted their third annual B.A.D Boys toy drive. The fraternities in conjunction with Devereux, a nonprofit organization operating a number of clinical, therapeutic, educational, and employment services hosted over 120 children, giving them early Christmas presents and a holiday meal.

The main goal for this event was to provide children with the holiday experience by giving them presents that they otherwise would never receive.  Kids were given toys such as racecars, actions figures, dolls, and teddy bears. The provided dinner was a reflection of the different cultures of the three fraternities. The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha brought cornbread, fried chicken, and collard greens. The brothers of Sigma Lambda Beta brought pork, spaghetti, chicken wings, and plantains. The Brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi brought homemade chicken curry, white rice, naan, and samosas.

Delta Epsilon Psi brother Saumya Sinha says the main purpose of the event was,

“To bring a united and diverse effort from our Greek community at UCF to serve the children that may not be as fortunate as others. Our Greek community understands how blessed we are to be given the opportunity at pursuing a higher education. By organizing this event, we are not only able to brighten the kid’s days during the holidays but also promote the importance of education.”

University of Central Florida Alumni and Devereux representative, Monica Waller, attended the event and shared her experiences working with the organizations and the importance of this type of event during the holiday spirit. She explained the, "Holidays are tough, and we kind of take what we have for granted, but in the end, they're kids, and they get just as excited as everyone else, so we try to bring out the happiness."

The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, Sigma Lambda Beta, and Delta Epsilon Psi came together to share in the spirit of Christmas. The event illustrated the power of unity and the reward of giving during the holidays.
