First DEPsi Week at University of Florida

Fall 2011 marked the first fall semester for Rho Colony after establishment at the University of Florida. Along with the semester came many expectations for chapter programming, including a week. At UF, each organization on the Multicultural Greek Council chooses a week during the semester to hold various events each day. The first week of November marked the first DEPsi week at the University of Florida.

The week began with a service event on Monday. A bone marrow registry drive was held, co-hosted with Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc. This all day registry was held on campus and attracted a large number of Asian and South Asian students, staff, and faculty. This event was very successful, and the cause was very important, as the target population is extremely underrepresented in the bone marrow registry nationwide. The week continued on Tuesday with a social with Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. The brothers played pool and socialized with the sisters of Theta Nu Xi. Both of these events helped build bonds and positive relations between Delta Epsilon Psi and other organizations on the Multicultural Greek Council here at the University of Florida.

On Wednesday, the brothers strolled on campus at the Set, a centrally located courtyard, as a part of a yardshow held on campus. This event was very fun and successful. It was great seeing every organization come together around something shared by most such as strolling. On Thursday, a fundraiser was held at Five Guys to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The all day event attracted many people, both Greek and non-Greek, raising a good sum for JDRF. On Friday, the brothers focused on brotherhood. A brotherhood lunch started off the day at a local Mexican restaurant, followed by a meeting to plan a probate. This was especially exciting as this would be the first DEPsi probate held at the University of Florida. Saturday marks the end of the week with a club party held at Status, one of the premier clubs in Gainesville. This event had a very good turnout, including brothers from various other chapters throughout the region.

The first DEPsi week at the University of Florida was a successful event. This helped promote the organization as a whole and increase collaboration with other organizations on the council. We look forward to hosting a week in each upcoming semester.
