A Day at Fresh Market
This semester, I had the opportunity to help raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by conducting a bake sale over at a Whole Foods for a weekend with my brothers in my colony. We sold everything from cookies to hot dogs to sundaes and even root beer floats. We also had the opportunity to talk to people about the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and how they are working to help find a cure for type-one diabetes. This came especially easy for us because every single brother loves the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and knows everything about it in our colony as well as all our brothers from out of state too. Volunteering at this bake sale was probably one of the most interesting experiences I've had this semester.
One of the reasons was because I got to hang out with a lot of my brothers who aren't apart of my life since I just crossed last semester. I made new friends and interacted with different personalities. Also, I got to raise money for such a great organization and cause. This bake sale also helped me with my public speaking, a skill that I can always improve on by talking to the customers. Before I became a member of Delta Epsilon Psi I rarely did any kind of volunteer work. That was mainly because I thought volunteering was boring and I did not see any benefit to becoming a volunteer. Joining this fraternity has completely changed my perspective on this matter though. Today I know that not only does the world need volunteers but also that volunteering can be a really fun and a rewarding experience when you are doing it with friends or brothers.
Now that I am a brother of Delta Epsilon Psi, I find out not only about Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation events but also about other volunteering events where my brothers will also be volunteering. Furthermore, Delta Epsilon Psi has made me a more confident and poised person. Also, I learned about a new side of my personality: I love to help others. This fundraiser has also helped me become a more confident and poised person. Interacting with customers not only helped improve my public speaking but also helped improve my comfort level with others. Being a brother helped me learn how to speak in front of a crowd with added pressure. This helps me and my future because I know I would have to be talking in front of employers during interviews after I receive my business degree. I am proud to be called a delta and I believe in this fraternity. I am looking forward to see what else this fraternity has to offer in the future.
