Delta Truly Does Mean Change
Since becoming a founder of Delta Epsilon Psi at Wayne State University, I can honestly say that my life has turned for the better in every aspect. From an increase in my academic performance to making significant progress in my pursuit to become an professional in the workforce, Delta Epsilon Psi has been the main factor that was the spark needed for me to exponentially increase my strive for success. However, while I sit here and write this article, I am reminded of my entrance into my college career and how adamant I was as to prevent becoming a part of a Greek organization. With my initial impression of a fraternity consisting of one that was similar to movies like “Animal House” I believed that this would only hinder me in my aspirations of becoming a doctor. Later on through my education, however, things changed and because of what I discovered about myself as a result of Delta Epsilon Psi, I am in a much better position today.
Upon entering Wayne State University, I had my mind set on one thing, medical school. However, after going through a significant number of prerequisites while working in an IT job, I realized my passion lay somewhere else. This was also around the same time we formed our interest group at Wayne State for Delta Epsilon Psi. At first I had thought that it would be like every other fraternity, but after discovering that it was indeed a service fraternity and how much time and dedication every individual puts forth not only for our philanthropy, but our entire organization as a whole, I knew this was exactly what I needed to make the next step in my life. Through the intake process I found out what my true potential really was, and from there everything went uphill to the point where I am today. From weekly service events, to planning and hosting signature service events and fundraisers for JDRF among many others, D.E.Psi has impacted my life in ways I never imagined and I could not be more thankful.
But beyond even my academic life I have joined a various assortment of extracurricular activities. Ranging from a newly reestablished Bhangra team on campus to work with the American Marketing Association, my diverse outlook on my work and life as a whole has provided the positive change in my life. Not only have I taken my involvement in these organizations seriously I have become a leader in these different communities on and off campus. Now I sit here, a mere semester away from graduation with two Bachelor’s of Science degrees and ready to take on whatever the world throws at me with full force.
