Unknown Expectation Turn into Unimaginable Reality
Two and half years ago, I embarked on Journey with no knowledge of the future it would bring. At that time I was a sophomore in college and I worked a full time job at the same time. So, at that time I had a lot on my plate, as far as social life and just being a normal college student, I missed out on many of the college experience. Plus, I commuted to the college so I would just go to work then college and then home, this created a need in me to belong in a group or an organization. I had a group of friends in college but never a close bond that I now share with my brothers.
At first, I had slight knowledge of what being in a fraternity meant or how it would benefit me. There were other South Asian Greek on campus but they never appealed to me as they did not seem sincere. I was working hard in college, I needed a medium to able to succeed in college not pull me back from success. Soon, a good friend of mine introduced me to Delta Epsilon Psi. He explained to me that it’s the Largest and Fastest growing South Asian Greek and I can be part of creating history by starting up a new colony with him. The appeal of Delta Epsilon Psi for me did not come from the aspect that the fraternity is the largest or the fastest or even the chance of becoming a founder. What attracted me was the chance to become a “Leader” in life and being able to make a difference in my society. As I found out more about Delta Epsilon Psi, and its role to form men into leaders thorough “Brotherhood”, “Discipline” and “Commitment” I saw that those men brought a huge positive change in their environment through community service. All of these ideals influenced me to commit myself unconditionally to bring Delta Epsilon Psi in my college.
Through tremendous hard work in finding other individuals, who seem fit to start Delta Epsilon Psi. Eventually, our process started with small group of men. It took an entire semester before we even started our process, but I was fully committed as well as other individuals. During the process I continued to work full time and attend college, through hard work and my commitment to join the fraternity, I made sure to never give up. The challenge made me stronger and helped me achieve my goal of becoming a leader and become a part of the brotherhood.
At first, I barely knew my future line brother, but by the end of the process, not only did I consider him as my line brother, he became a part of me and my life. We all had become so close and grown so much as each individual that our bond could withhold any obstacles that we might face in the future. At the moment, it has been two years since I crossed and as graduating senior, I look back at the two years of my life as greatest accomplishment of my life. We, the small group of men were able to bring the largest, the fastest and the strongest fraternity to campus, Delta Epsilon Psi. In just matter of two years, the small group of men became the largest Greek on campus, with more active brothers than other fraternities on campus. Yet, the brotherhood among all of us still remains strong. Being a part of this fraternity surpassed my expectations brought a reality of the greatest achievement of my life. “2 years brought 2 decades of greatest memories.. to last 2 lifetimes..”
